The Cat King lingers on that kiss. He's missed Iago's lips, the way he smells and tastes. He wasn't sure he was ever going to experience this again, but... here they are.
"I don't know. I suppose change... hasn't always been kind to me." Every death seems to fuel his bitterness, erode his ability to trust. Leaves him struggling to be the bridge between cats and humanity he was made to be.
"You're good to me, Iago," the Cat King murmurs. "Better than I deserve, surely." He buries his face in Iago's shoulder and just... holds him, tightly.
"All right." He's missed Iago in bed with him. Missed his warmth, his heartbeat... he doesn't smile. He's not quite ready for that. But he does nuzzle in for a moment before reluctantly letting go so they can move to the bed.
It's rare that this wouldn't lead to sex, but that's not where his head is
at. That's not what's on his mind. He just holds CK close, feeling how
comfortable he seems right there next to him.
It's not where the Cat King is, either. All he wants to do is melt in against Iago, breathe him in, forget these last few weeks ever happened. The warmth - and the company - ease his sore muscles and loosen the ache in his chest. It's not gone. He's not sure it can ever be gone. But he can pretend it doesn't exist so long as they're here, tangled up in each other.
