•CONTACT METHOD: Plurk (

•THREAD-JACKING: Thread-jack away!
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: Fictional would be tricky, given how new and niche the show is, but if Dead Boy Detectives actually shows up in your character's canon, I'm down for playing with that! I'd prefer he not be recognized as his actor beyond "hey you kinda look like X that's weird", but if a canonmate shows up from past his pull point I'm down for spoilers.
•BACKTAGGING: Absolutely
•AVOIDED TOPICS: The Cat King is going to be extremely flirtatious, even while stuck in cat form, but I am going to draw the line at anything beyond dirty talk until he has a human form back.
•PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: The Cat King uses he/him, Chance uses they/them
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: Beginning of Episode 7, "The Case of the Very Long Stairway"
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
As a cat, the Cat King is currently a fluffy orange tabby, fully mature and filled out, but clearly all muscle when he's petted or picked up. He does look after his appearance, so he's no scraggly stray with matted, dirty fur, but there's signs of a hard life. Mostly scars, here and there, underneath the fur. The most visible is just above his lip on the left side. He moves and acts... like a cat, albeit one with confidence and swagger to spare.
He smells like the impossibly perfect ideal of a tomcat and purple fire - his personal brand of magic. Those of the feline persuasion might also notice he projects an aura of authority and safety - while he may have personality clashes with fellow cats and catlike beings, he will not let them come to harm, either. The boundary between "cat" and "not cat" can be a little fuzzy, so I'll leave that up to player discretion, but generally this will apply more to characters who actually see themselves as a cat in some way, not characters who are shapeshifted into a cat via something like the cat wands in the gym.
In his human form, he's a man ambiguously somewhere in his 30s, with an easy, mischievous grin and an eclectic fashion sense consisting of a lot of silks, kilts, and combat boots. His wavy hair is styled in a way that makes it always look artfully tousled, and his eyes are gold with slit pupils and almost no whites to speak of. He moves with grace and confidence, carries himself like the king he is, and tends to lounge or sprawl rather than sit. He currently has no access to this form on the Barge.
Whatever his form, his voice is the same - coy, sultry, arrogant, often condescending. He's a tease and a horrendous flirt with precious little respect for other non-cat beings, and it comes across in his tone. In short, he comes off as kind of an ass. A quick sample can be seen here.
•DEMEANOR:
Everything about the Cat King is, on the surface, cocky, confident, and arrogant. He demands attention with his presence, and has a way of making people feel special when graced with his attention and interest. But just underneath is a petty, jealous little creature who becomes easily irritated when things don't go his way and enjoys needling others just to see their reaction. He can be flirtatious one minute and cold and condescending the next. And while he doesn't often let on he's afraid, he'll make himself scarce the moment he thinks there's a threat he can't handle.
•ABILITIES:
Talking: Yes, this is a power, though all cats in his universe can do it. He can talk as a cat, though whether he'll be willing to talk to humans is another matter entirely.
Teleporting: While we mostly see him use this short-range (a few feet or so), he has also appeared out of nowhere in the middle of a forest, so this ability appears to have range of at least a few hundred feet, when necessary.
Shapeshifting: He has a standard human form he can change into (though he regularly changes outfits and hairstyles), but he can also transform into other humanoids nearly perfectly. The tell is always his golden cat eyes.
Summoning: The Cat King can summon medium-sized objects at will, the largest being a good-sized chandelier. These objects appear to be magical constructs rather than normal objects pulled from somewhere else, as they're capable of doing things like hovering above him or lighting up with no power source, but most of the time they look and act perfectly ordinary.
Magic Immunity: Due to the kind of magical creature he is, magic from the Cat King's world doesn't work on him. Magic from other worlds might or might not work, with magics that work similarly to the Sandman cinematic universe's rules being less likely to work than others, but this is something I plan to work out with other players OOC as it comes up.
Unaging/Nine Lives: The Cat King does not age, as evidenced by the fact that he's been around hundreds of years and yet is only on his third life by the time of his pull point. He's an immortal in the sense that he won't die unless someone or something kills him. He also does have nine lives, and every time he's killed he claws his way out of his old body with a new cat form, but the same human form (although how he chooses to dress and style himself may change to reflect his new feline aesthetic). On the Barge, a resurrection will just revive his third life the way it would for anyone else, instead of forcing him onto his fourth.
Truth Magic: With a touch of his finger down another person's lips, the Cat King can demand they tell him the truth about something, and they will be compelled to answer and answer honestly.
Binding Magic: He can create a powerful binding spell that prevents someone - even a ghost - from being able to leave his area of influence (typically, Port Townsend). Only he can break this spell, unless the person bound by it is taken to another plane of existence. It manifests as a gold bracelet with a cat's head clasp on the wrist.
Pocket Dimension: The room he teleports Edwin to when they first meet appears to be a personal pocket dimension of sorts, possibly on another plane of existence, as spending moments in there takes hours in real time. The room isn't large, mostly a bed and some trinkets.
Cat Spies: He can see through the eyes of a willing feline subject, and uses this to spy on people he's invested in.
Other notes: As a magical entity that's been around a long time, the Cat King has an excellent working understanding of magic and supernatural beings in his world. He also has the eyes, ears, and nose of, well, a cat, and his knowledge and keener senses make it much more likely that he'll sus out non-humans and magic users fairly easily, though this isn't an inherently magical trait.
Most normal cats will recognize him as a figure to be respected and listened to, as well as someone who will protect them and their interests, but I'll leave how cooperative any individual cat on the Barge is up to their respective owners.
All but his ability to talk as a cat and teleportation, limited down to 30ft (and not in or out of magically protected spaces like cabins, of course), are currently sealed
•MEDICAL INFORMATION:
Immunity to all magic includes healing magic His magic immunity is currently sealed and he can be healed magically until it's returned to him.
•CABIN INFORMATION:
His door is a janky, rusted metal door that looks like it belongs on an old, disused warehouse. Painted on it is a red crown in a white circle with a blue rim that has "Imperial Pacific Cannery" printed inside it.
Inside is a dimly-lit room that looks like it might belong in an attic somewhere, with rickety wooden shelves and glass baubles hanging from the ceiling. It's almost entirely taken up by a circular bed with velour sheets, surrounded by candles. Over the bed hangs a neon sign with the same red crown circled by a blue ring. There's some gaps in the wood panels on one side that leads to a starkly clashing hotel-style bathroom (which does have a self-cleaning litterbox installed as well as a regular toilet). It's pretty clear that this space doesn't normally include a toilet.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS:
Oh the list goes on for miles. Treating him like a regular cat. Not treating him enough like a regular cat. Anyone remotely implying interest in Edwin Payne. Anyone not responding to his flirtations the way he wants them to. Someone flirting with him when he doesn't want to be touched. Look, he's a cat. Avoiding offending him is next to impossible without letting him lead you around by the nose and doing everything he wants and expects, and that will probably just make him bored.
But he can forgive most sins except harming him or one of his cats, and either harming or trying to take Edwin away from him in either one way or another.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL: Yes! Give me a heads-up for big stuff, thanks but little things are fine!
•MIMICRY: Again, yes! But I'd like to know it's happening so I can stalk.
•VIOLENCE: He's much more likely to run than fight, unless a cat is threatened in his presence, but you can certainly try.
•MAGIC: For now, yes! Once his magic immunity is returned, I'll need to decide on a case-by-case basis if your character's magic works on him, as most won't.
•DEBATE: Absolutely
•OTHER / NOTES:
The Cat King is a character who pushes boundaries and engages in some pretty creepy, predatory behavior. I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND not wanting to scene with him, or wanting me to avoid certain topics or kinds of scenes. PLEASE READ AND RESPOND to the comment under this post detailing his potentially triggering behaviors if you would like to opt-out or avoid certain topics in our scenes!
